DB, Champigny sur Marne, France.  Founded by Charles Deutsch and René Bonnet, this small French manufacturer produced small racing cars and sports cars from 1947 to 1961.  One of their most successful model in terms of sales was the HBR5 which was sold between 1955 and 1961. As with many of their cars it featured a two cylinder Panhard engine.  The one pictured above has a 851cc engine but others had 748cc engines or 954cc engines and some were supercharged.  It had a fibre glass coupé body, was front engined and front wheel drive.  They were entered in many long distance events such as Le Mans 24 hours and the Tour de France Automobile having sucess in the Index of Performance competition.  The car was sometimes called the DB Coach and smaller engined versions were designated HBR4.

Lancia, Turin, Italy.  Lancia Corse collaborated with Dallara on the Chassis, Pininfarina on the body and Abarth on the mechanicals to make this Group 5 silhouette car of the Lancia Beta Montecarlo.  The engine developed by Abarth was a 1,425cc turbo but it developed over 400bhp.  The car competed successfully in the 1979 and 1980 World Championship of Makes, winning the 2 litre class in both years. Overall race wins came at Brands Hatch, Mugello and Watkins Glen.  For 1981 it was given a bigger engine.

Renault, Dieppe, France.  The R5 Turbo was produced from 1980 to 1986. Over 3,500 street and rally versions were sold of this very fast hot hatchback.  It had a mid-engined 1.4 litre turbocharged engine which drove the rear wheels.  The street version could do 120 mph and 0-60 in about 7 seconds. With a light body it cornered very well as well. On its Rally debut, Jean Ragnotti won the 1981 Monte Carlo Rally.  He also won the 1982 and 1985 Tour de Corse in the R5 Turbo, the latter in a Renault 5 Maxi which had a 1.5L turbo engine.  On the circuits they were used mainly in one-make series with relatively little success elsewhere.

Mon astuce pour faire des belles photos.
Composition est tout. Ne pas se concentrer uniquement sur la voiture.

Top photo tip.
Composition is everything.  Don't just concentrate on the car.
